NATIONAL LAW UNIVERSITY, DELHI has been assigned the task of providing an eight month Pre-Appointment Training for the Officers of Assam Judicial Services. This training is first of its kind in the country being offered by any Law University. This concept of Pre-Appointment Training itself is a new concept being the brain child of Justice J. Chelameshwar, Chief Justice of Guahati High Court. Though the concept of a mandatory training is not new in the wake of Supreme Court’s judgment in Judge’s case but the training which was imparted earlier was post-appointment and by the State Judicial Academies. Guahati High Court and the NATIONAL LAW UNIVERSITY, DELHI have the distinction of conceiving such training programme. The Training is being conducted with the active support of Delhi High Court.
The Training Programme was inaugurated on 30th December, 2008 by Hon’ble (Dr.) Justice Mukundakam Sharma, Judge, Supreme Court of India in the august presence of Hon’ble Mr. Justice J. Chelameshwar, Chief Justice, Guahati High Court and Hon’ble Mr. Justice Ansari, Judge, Guahati High Court. Prof. Ranbir Singh, Vice-Chancellor, while welcoming the hon’ble guests and the Trainees, emphasized the need of such programmes being undertaken by the Law Universities.
This is a fully residential training and the batch of 60 candidates, selected by the Guahati High Court, are undergoing this training at NATIONAL LAW UNIVERSITY, DELHI.
