Mihira Sood

Visiting Professor



Mihira is the Executive Director of the Centre for Child Rights & Juvenile Justice and a Visiting Professor of Law at the National Law University, Delhi.

 

She has been a practising advocate at the courts in Delhi since 2007, where she has acted in a variety of matters including on sexual violence, child abuse, family law, domestic violence, writ petitions, media law, consumer complaints, commercial disputes, criminal law and public interest litigation. She qualified as an Advocate on Record of the Supreme Court in 2014.

 

Mihira has extensive experience in public policy and advisory work, having assisted the Justice Verma Committee in recommending changes to laws on sexual violence, and having worked with UN Women on issues of access to justice for women and girls. She also advises a number of companies on compliance with anti-sexual harassment laws, and acts as a member of many of their Internal Complaints Committees.

 

She has previously taught at Jindal Global Law School, and has been visiting faculty at National Law University Delhi, NALSAR Hyderabad, and NYU Abu Dhabi. She teaches courses on constitutional law, criminal law, evidence, drafting, feminist studies, and the role of lawyers in social change.

 

Mihira completed her graduation in law from NALSAR University, Hyderabad in 2007. In 2013 she received a scholarship to pursue her LLM from Columbia University, from where she graduated with the James Kent Scholar Award, the Harlan Fiske Stone Award for outstanding academic performance, Certification for Excellence in Gender & Sexuality Scholarship, and the Parker Award for Excellence in Comparative & International Law.
