Mr. Dayan Krishnan

KL Arora Chair Professor in Criminal Law



Mr. Dayan Krishnan graduated from the National Law School of India University, Bangalore in 1993 as part of its first batch of graduates. He is a designated senior advocate and is a leading practitioner in Criminal Law with a particular expertise in Extradition Law and prevention of money laundering. He has an extensive experience of over nearly three decades in litigation and has a distinction of being appointed as an amicus curiae in numerous matters by different courts.  

 

He has acted as a special public prosecutor in various high-profile cases including the Nirbhaya gang rape case, Nitish Katara murder case, Naval War Room leak case, Commonwealth Games scam, and the Uphaar (tampering of evidence) case.

 

Mr. Krishnan is also engaged in a variety of international assignments by the Government of India on account of his expertise in extradition law. He is the Special Public Prosecutor appointed by the National Investigation Agency in respect of the case against David Coleman Headley and Tahawwur Hussain Rana. In that capacity, he went to the United States to interrogate David Coleman Headley along with investigators of the NIA. He is at present, involved in the ongoing efforts to extradite Tahawwur Hussain Rana from the United States.

 

This apart, he has represented the Government of India in its efforts to extradite Raymond Varley and Ravi Shankaran from the United Kingdom.

 

Mr. Krishnan has also delivered lectures in various fora including the National Judicial Academy, National Defence College, in addition to law schools across the country. Mr. Krishnan also has several academic publications on extradition law.
